The Indigo Girls and Mary Chapin Carpenter are set to co-headline the historic Red Rocks Amphitheater this summer, each performing their own set and joined on stage by the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.

Amy Ray and Emily Saliers are Indigo Girls. Rolling Stone describes them as the “ideal duet partners. Their voices soar and swoop as one, alternately raucous and soothing. When they sing together, they radiate a sense of shared purpose that adds muscle to their lanky, deeply felt folk-tinged pop songs”. Together they write, arrange, record and perform music which over the course of twenty five years has become a vital part of the lives of their legion of devoted fans around the world, informing and rewarding them day to day. With twelve original studio albums, three live records, various Greatest Hits compilations, a Rarities and a Christmas record to their credit, the iconic duo continues to challenge itself creatively, over and over again, adding to a body of work that contains such contemporary classic songs as Galileo, Shame on You, Closer To Fine, Kid Fears, Love of Our Lives, Making Promises, Get out the Map, Moment of Forgiveness, Least Complicated and Go.  After numerous Grammy nominations and awards and gold and platinum certifications and decades of touring in clubs, arenas and everything in between,  Indigo Girls remain active and  relevant, always viewing their music as a fresh opportunity for exploration and discovery.

Mary Chapin Carpenter’s debut orchestral album, Songs From The Movie, features compelling orchestral reinventions of classic Mary Chapin Carpenter compositions. Arranged and conducted by six-time Grammy winner Vince Mendoza, Songs From the Movie was recorded at London’s legendary AIR Studios with a 63-piece orchestra and a 15-voice choir. The record finds this multi-platinum album selling, five-time Grammy winner, two-time CMA Female Vocalist of the Year, and member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame still breaking new ground, giving us a record unlike any of her others. “I grew up in a house where film soundtracks and classical music played constantly because my mother loved them so,” Carpenter says, as a way to explain how she came to this project. Since her recording debut in 1987, her compositions have been covered by a diverse assortment of artists including Joan Baez, Wynonna Judd, and Cyndi Lauper, and she has also collaborated, on record and/or on stage, with the likes of Joan Baez, Shawn Colvin, Dolly Parton, the Indigo Girls and Tony Bennett. Carpenter will appear as a guest with orchestras in the U.S. and the U.K. throughout 2014.
